There are a lot of reasons why some relationships don’t work out and a lot of the time, it’s because the individuals in the relationships don’t communicate enough. Communication may seem hard but it’s an essential part of building a strong foundation in a relationship.

Do you communicate enough with your partner? (or at all?)

In this week’s episode, Caleb Lesa (my fiancé) and I were interviewed by Sammi and Nathan Jaeger, hosts of The Date Forever podcast and founders of Fuel Collective who empowers couples to create thriving relationships so that they can play all out in life, set big goals and put plans in place to actually achieve them.

We talked about relationship strategies and all about communication in keeping a relationship strong and healthy.

“When expectation hasn’t been met, it creates resentment but if you’ve never communicated that expectation in the first place, you’ve set yourself and your partner up for failure because they can’t possibly meet an expectation that hasn’t been communicated.” - Sammi

Main takeaways:

  • [03:04] Caleb talks about the growth he had from his previous relationship

  • [05:06] When it comes to relationships, it’s more than what you’re looking for in a person

  • [06:25] The process and strategies of coming up with what you want your ideal lifestyle to look like

  • [09:30] Why communication and reflection is important in relationships

  • [18:00] How Caleb and I decide as a couple that we were going to travel

  • [23:42] What we do to actively keep dating each other

  • [29:58] It’s important to always think that your significant other has your best interest at heart (even if you’re angry or things are going well)

  • [32:16] The importance of having your mental and emotional presence as well during date nights

  • [34:35] 3 Tips for setting those great foundations in a relationship

“Most people fall in love with the idea of being in a relationship, and they kinda don’t really care who they’re in a relationship with. They just love the idea of being in love and I think that’s probably the first problem.” - Caleb Lesa
